What is Wildlife Monitoring?
Wildlife Monitoring is when a biologist(person who studies the natural world, by using scientific tools) either wants to learn more about a certain animal, need to track an animal that may be on the verge of becoming extinct, or other various reasons. Biologists use wildlife monitoring, because it is hard to figure out the population of a species or their behaviors without the fancy technology they have today. They also use this to figure out if there is something that is affecting there population, and then they may be able to solve this to help the animals population. They can also track them for finding out where they like to be or where their migratory routes are.

African Bush Elephant Monitoring.
Biologists use wildlife monitoring on lots of animals and even elephants. There are lots of different ways to record wildlife monitoring. There are the Radio Collars that are used in certain locations, because if there is not good signal. There are also some high tech things like a GPS or a satellite system to trace where and even what they are doing.
This is a picture of how they are able to track the African Bush elephant. First they need to have a team of people to help with the process. There usually is a medical member who has a tranquilizer gun which puts the elephant unconscious until the medic "reverses" the medicine. The team must do this, because these huge elephants can be very dangerous, and they are to strong for them to hold down. So after they have the elephant they usually use radio collars on the elephant. The main spot for the collar is the neck, but they also can put it on their legs. So then once they have safety applied all of the technology they may leave the elephant quickly before it wakes up again, because the elephant will be very confused and mad.
This is a video that goes through the process of how they collar an elephant.
